Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 50th meeting of PRAGATI, marking a decade of the technology-driven governance platform that has helped fast-track projects worth more than Rs 85 lakh crore and
resolve long-pending infrastructure bottlenecks across the country.
Describing the milestone as a reflection of a “deep transformation” in India’s governance culture, the Prime Minister said PRAGATI- which stands for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation- has become essential to sustaining reform momentum and ensuring last-mile delivery.
“When decisions are timely, coordination is effective and accountability is fixed, the speed of governance increases and its impact becomes visible in citizens’ lives,” PM Modi said.
At the 50th meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed five critical infrastructure projects spanning road, railways, power, water resources and coal sectors across five states, with a cumulative cost of over Rs 40,000 crore. Reviewing the PM SHRI schools scheme, the Prime Minister stressed that it must evolve into a national benchmark for holistic and future-ready education. He urged Chief Secretaries to closely monitor implementation, shift the focus from infrastructure creation to outcomes and ensure that PM SHRI schools set standards for other state-run schools. He also asked senior officials to undertake field visits to assess on-ground performance.
Tracing the origins of PRAGATI, the Prime Minister recalled launching the SWAGAT platform as Gujarat Chief Minister to address public grievances through technology-enabled, time-bound action. That approach, he said, was scaled up nationally after 2014 through PRAGATI, integrating project monitoring, programme implementation and grievance redressal on a single platform.
According to official data shared during the meeting, since 2014, 377 projects have been reviewed under PRAGATI, with 2,958 of the 3,162 identified issues- about 94 per cent- resolved. The platform has helped reduce delays, cost overruns and coordination failures, while supporting the rollout of major welfare programmes.
The Prime Minister said several projects stalled for decades were unlocked or completed after being taken up under PRAGATI, citing examples such as the Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge in Assam, the Jammu–Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail link, the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Bhilai Steel Plant expansion and major thermal power projects.
Calling PRAGATI a model of cooperative federalism, the Prime Minister said it has broken silo-based functioning by bringing the Centre, states and multiple ministries onto a common problem-solving platform.
Outlining priorities for the next phase, the Prime Minister articulated his mantra of “Reform, Perform, Transform”- simplifying procedures, delivering on time, cost and quality and ensuring that governance outcomes are felt directly by citizens.
The Prime Minister said PRAGATI@50 was “not merely a milestone but a commitment”, calling for greater use of technology across the entire project life cycle to ensure faster execution, higher quality and measurable outcomes.
