The schedule of the 2027 ODI World Cup will be unveiled in one of the host cities, Cape Town, on Thursday, according to a report in Cricbuzz. The event, which marks the one-year countdown to the tournament, will also see tickets for the games go on sale.
As per earlier reports, the 2027 ODI World Cup is all set to start on Saturday, October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, November 21, 2027.
19 of the 14 teams participating in the 2027 ODI World Cup will be confirmed by Wednesday, the qualification cut-off date. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe will be among them, while the remaining eight teams will qualify based on the ICC ODI rankings.
The remaining four spots will be filled through the qualifiers,
with the teams listed in the schedule as Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2, Qualifier 3 and Qualifier 4. Namibia is also among the host countries alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe, but its place in the tournament is yet to be confirmed.
As things stand, India (No. 1), New Zealand (No. 2), Pakistan (No. 4), Australia (No. 5), England (No. 6), Sri Lanka (No. 7), Afghanistan (No. 8) and Bangladesh (No. 9) are the eight teams in line to qualify through the rankings.
Bangladesh, despite sitting ninth in the rankings, will make the cut as South Africa, the third-ranked team, qualify automatically as hosts. Meanwhile, the West Indies, engaged in an ODI series in India, will have to go through the qualifiers, scheduled for early next year.
The ICC will also launch the ballot for 2027 ODI World Cup tickets on Thursday. While fans will not be able to purchase tickets, they can register for the ticket ballot from Thursday.
As per an ICC release, the 2027 ODI World Cup will feature three stages before the semi-finals and final. The tournament will start with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualifiers, who will play each other in a round-robin format.
