The Telangana Police have confirmed that Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son, Bandi Sai Bhagirath, has been taken into custody in connection with a POCSO case.
According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh, Bhagirath was taken into custody on the outskirts of Hyderabad. However, police clarified that it was not a surrender.
This development comes hours after a Look Out Circular (LoC) was issued against him. Bhagirath is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl between October and December 2025.
Bandi Sanjay Denies His Son’s Arrest
Bandi Sanjay’s team said in a statement that Bhagirath was not arrested but had voluntarily appeared before the police for questioning. According to the statement, he appeared before police in the presence
of two lawyers.
Meanwhile, Bandi Sanjay’s team also shared visuals of Bhagirath being handed over to the police. He was later taken to the Pet Basheerabad Police Station for further legal procedure.
“Bhagirath was not arrested… He himself appeared for police questioning. Bhagirath went to Pet Basheerabad Police Station in the presence of two lawyers,” the Union Minister posted on X.
“With utmost respect for the law and judiciary, today my son Bandi Bhageerath went before the Telangana Police through our advocates for investigation. I have said this before too: whether it is my own son or a common citizen, everyone is equal before the law,” the Minister tweeted earlier in the day.
What Is The Case About?
As per the FIR, Bhagirath was in a relationship with the minor and had sexually harassed her. She also accused him of subjecting her to inappropriate physical acts and forcing her to consume alcohol. Meanwhile, Bhagirath also lodged a counter-complaint, saying that the girl invited him to family functions and gatherings, after which her family started pressuring him to marry her and extorting Rs 5 crore from him.
