Teena Choudhry, the Mumbai woman who went viral after confronting BJP leader and Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan during a traffic jam allegedly caused by a political rally in Worli, has now issued a clarification, saying the situation was eventually resolved after the minister intervened.
In a detailed video statement, Choudhry said she had been receiving several messages about her safety and assured that she was fine. “I have received so many messages regarding my safety. I want to let you know that I’m fine and I appreciate the concern,” she said.
She explained that the incident took place on April 21 when she was returning after dropping her daughter for music class and got stuck in a severe traffic jam near Mahindra Taj.

According to her account, she remained in her car for nearly 25 minutes before stepping out to understand the reason for the gridlock. She said she then approached multiple police officials over the next one-and-a-half hours, requesting that two buses blocking the route be moved so vehicles could make a U-turn and clear the congestion.
“When the traffic did not move, I got out to find out what the problem was… I went to every single police officer there to request that if you get the two buses removed, people who are stuck, we can make a U-turn and join the main road,” the woman added.
Choudhry also addressed the viral video, clarifying that she had thrown a bottle on the ground only to draw attention and not at any protester or rally participant.
She further stated that while she did not initially receive a response from officials, Mahajan was the only person who engaged with her concerns.
“Mr Mahajan was actually the only person in that rally who at least tried to listen to what I was saying,” she said, adding that on his instructions the two buses were eventually moved, allowing stranded vehicles to take a U-turn and rejoin the main road.
About the incident
The incident had gone viral last week after Choudhry was seen shouting at officials and questioning why a political rally was being conducted on a road already packed with commuters. The video showed her demanding that the area be cleared, while Mahajan was speaking to the media on women’s reservation issues nearby.
Following the controversy, Mahajan had apologised for the inconvenience caused by the rally. “A woman walked up to me and appeared angry. It is evident she was upset with traffic congestion. I tried to pacify her and give her audience. I assured her that traffic problem would get resolved in 10 to 15 minutes,” he said.
He maintained that the congestion was not intentional but a consequence of large public gatherings, adding that similar disruptions occur during rallies across cities.
“This is an issue not restricted to Mumbai alone. It has happened across country. About yesterday’s incident, there were several persons who were getting restless because of the traffic issue,” the BJP minister added.
