RJD Turmoil: Who Are Sanjay Yadav And Rameez Nemat, The Men Rohini Acharya Has Accused?

A sharp public outburst by Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has triggered a fresh political storm within the party, bringing renewed scrutiny on Rajya Sabha

MP Sanjay Yadav and political aide Rameez Nemat, two figures long rumoured to wield significant influence over Tejashwi Yadav.

“If Sanjay and Rameez’s names are mentioned, they will throw you out of the house, make people insult you, and even hit you with a slipper,” Rohini told reporters, shortly after posting a series of allegations on social media.

Her comments have become the latest flashpoint in the factional churn gripping the RJD after its poor performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

Who Is Sanjay Yadav?

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav’s rise within the RJD dates back to 2015. Party insiders in Patna often recall a turning point: during the final phase of the tightly fought 2015 Bihar polls, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made a remark about revisiting the reservation policy. Sanjay Yadav flagged the comment to Lalu Prasad Yadav, who reportedly responded, “Badka mudda mil gel ba (we got a big issue).”

The RJD-JD(U) Mahagathbandhan capitalised on the remark, framing it as a threat to reservation. The alliance went on to sweep 178 seats, an outcome widely attributed to the Lalu–Nitish partnership. But Sanjay Yadav emerged from that moment as a trusted insider in the RJD ecosystem.

Yadav, who holds a master’s degree in computer science and business management, hails from a political family in Haryana and shares a close relationship with both Tejashwi Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. His bond with Tejashwi, strengthened by a shared passion for cricket, eventually positioned him as the latter’s key strategist.

It was Sanjay Yadav who recast RJD’s public messaging, crafting the “Yuva Bihari” pitch and shifting the party’s visual identity by placing Tejashwi at the centre of posters and hoardings, often overshadowing Lalu Prasad’s presence.

However, his growing influence drew internal resentment. Rohini Acharya had first objected to Yadav occupying Tejashwi’s seat during the latter’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra.”

Tej Pratap Yadav, Tejashwi’s estranged elder brother, frequently invoked the term “jaichand” (traitor), which party workers believed was aimed at Sanjay Yadav. Several senior RJD leaders, ranging from Lalu loyalists to those who mentored Tejashwi during his early political years, quietly complained of reduced access to the party leadership.

Yet none of them named him publicly, until Rohini’s outburst.

“I have no family… Go ask Sanjay, Rameez, and Tejashwi. They are the ones who threw me out. No one wants to take responsibility. If someone tries to act like Chanakya, then questions will be asked to that Chanakya, right?” Rohini told the media.

Political Reactions

The BJP wasted no time reacting. Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey launched a sharp attack on Lalu Prasad Yadav, writing on X, “लालू प्रसाद जी का तिलिस्म उनके जीवन काल में ही ख़त्म हो गया, बेटा बहन को चप्पल से पीट रहा है? यह सामाजिक परिवर्तन है या लालू जी के परिवार का चारित्रिक पतन?” (Lalu Prasad’s aura has ended during his own lifetime. The son is beating his sister with a slipper? Is this social change or the moral decline of Lalu’s family?)

He followed it up by calling Tejashwi dictatorial. “औरंगज़ेब और तेजस्वी यादव में क्या समानता है?” Dubey posted. (What is the similarity between Aurangzeb and Tejashwi Yadav?)

Who Is Rameez Nemat?

Rohini’s remarks also drew attention to Rameez Nemat, the son-in-law of former UP MP Rizwan Zaheer. Hailing from Balrampur, Nemat is a cricket enthusiast who has played for Jharkhand.

Rohini reposted allegations made by a social media handle Secular Netaji, which claimed: “Rameez Nemat Sanjay Yadav ke liye kaam karta hai. Us par hatya ka mamla chal raha hai aur uske sasur par bhi, jo UP ke top 10 mamlo mein aata hai. Abhi bail par chal raha hai.”

Silence From RJD Leadership As Crisis Deepens

So far, no member of the Lalu Yadav family has publicly responded to Rohini’s allegations. However, her comments, particularly significant given that she donated a kidney to Lalu Prasad, have intensified pressure on Tejashwi Yadav at a time when the party is struggling with one of its worst crises in years.

Tejashwi has convened a review meeting at his residence on Monday to assess the party’s electoral performance. But the spotlight on Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Nemat, now fuelled by Rohini’s explosive statements, will cast a long shadow over both the family and the RJD as it grapples with the aftermath of the 2025 defeat.
