Amid the controversy surrounding his upcoming movie, The Taj Story, Paresh Rawal has now defended his film, saying it only reveals the truth. Recently, the actor addressed the controversies around his film while speaking to the news agency ANI and explained how it causes a significant loss to the “social fabric, people’s psyche, and a country like India, which often witnesses delicate situations.”
“The film is about the architecture, and then the Taj’s transformation, which was borrowed from someone who borrowed someone else’s palace. The time it took, some notions, and a few misunderstandings that the hands of around 22,000 people were cut off – all of these have been revealed. The truth has been revealed,” Paresh Rawal told ANI.
Why A Plea Has Been Filed Against The Taj Story?
A Public Interest
Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court against The Taj Story, urging judicial intervention. The PIL objects to a poster showing a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from the Taj Mahal dome, claiming it revives the controversial theory of the monument’s Hindu temple origins.
Advocate Shakeel Abbas, who filed the plea, argues that The Taj Story contains “fabricated and provocative content” regarding the Taj Mahal’s origins. He contends that the film’s speculative claims could undermine public trust in history and incite communal tension.
The plea requests that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reassess the film’s certification and mandate necessary cuts to maintain communal harmony. According to the petition, the movie contains “deeply divisive scenes” that may incite communal tensions and disrupt public peace. It also asks the court to direct the filmmakers to include a clear disclaimer stating that the film presents a contested narrative rather than established facts.
What Does The Taj Story Revolve Around?
The Taj Story promises excellent performances and a plot that digs into lesser-known events surrounding the Taj Mahal. The film’s ensemble cast, led by Paresh Rawal, includes Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, Namit Das, Veena Jha, Latika Verma, Swarnim, and Sarvagaya.
The Taj Story positions itself as a fearless social drama that asks one provocative question: “Even after 79 years of Independence, are we still slaves of intellectual terrorism?” Described by the makers as “a cinematic debate,” the film merges courtroom intensity with broader social and historical commentary. The film looks at controversial questions about how the Taj Mahal was built, challenging the usual stories told about the famous monument.
The Taj Story is slated for a theatrical release on October 31, 2025.
