The district administration in Gautam Buddh Nagar has revised school timings for all classes in view of dense fog and extreme cold conditions. As per an order issued on January 18, all schools in the district will follow the new timings from January 19 onwards.
Under the revised schedule, classes will begin at 10 am and end at 3 pm. Schools have been instructed not to start classes before 10 am and to conclude them by 3 pm at the latest. The order applies to all government and private schools operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The official order states, “In compliance with the instructions given by the District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all classes in all schools operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district,
including government, private, and all schools affiliated with various boards (CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and others), will be conducted from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, effective January 19, 2026, until further orders. These orders must be strictly followed.”
The decision has been taken as cold wave conditions continue to affect the region, with poor visibility caused by thick fog. Authorities said the move was aimed at ensuring the safety of students, especially younger children, during the harsh winter spell. Large parts of the National Capital Region have been witnessing reduced visibility due to persistent fog.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog was reported during the morning hours, with moderate fog at several locations and dense fog at isolated places. Minimum temperatures on Sunday hovered between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius, which is about 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reimposed Stage-IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi and the National Capital Region as air quality continued to worsen. The commission said its sub-committee unanimously decided to activate all measures under Stage-IV for ‘Severe+’ air quality, citing prevailing pollution trends and related factors.
The restrictions have come into force with immediate effect and are in addition to the measures already in place under Stages I, II and III. Pollution Control Boards and other agencies across the NCR have also been directed to intensify preventive steps to stop any further deterioration in air quality.
In view of severe pollution, ongoing cold wave conditions and dense fog, authorities have advised people to limit outdoor activities, follow health advisories and take necessary precautions to avoid exposure to hazardous air conditions.
