Hollywood’s awards season marks the beginning as the Golden Globes is gearing up to unveil the nominations on Monday. The 83rd Golden Globes nominations will include the best in movies, TV, and podcasts
across 28 competitive categories.
In a major twist, this year each main category will have six nominees instead of five, as has been seen in past years. Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall are set to announce this year’s nominees on Monday morning at 5:15 AM PT / 8:15 AM ET (6:45 PM IST).
Who Are The Top Contenders For Golden Globes 2026 Nominations?
Hit musical Wicked: For Good, Shakespeare family tragedy Hamnet and the period horror film Sinners lead the charge of the nomination list. Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another and Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow-starrer sports dramedy Marty Supreme are also top contenders.
“The headline of this year is: Comedy is where the drama is,” Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis said during a conversation with AFP. He believes Wicked is “still probably the populist choice” with a wide appeal.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s blockbuster film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical is set to battle for top comedy-musical honours with One Battle After Another and Marty Supreme.
Hamnet and Sinners Expected To Lead Drama Nominations
On the other hand, Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners are leading the drama nominations.
Hamnet stars Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare, who tries to forge a career as a playwright while his wife, played by Jessie Buckley, contends with the perils of plague and childbirth in Elizabethan England. Hamnet is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, which draws on evidence that Shakespeare and his wife had a son named Hamnet.
Sinners, on the other hand, stars Michael B. Jordan as twins in the criminal underworld. The plot develops when he encounters a sinister force as they return home to Mississippi in the 1930s. “It has so much going for it; it’s a big moneymaker; it was a culturally significant hit,” Davis explained, adding he “will not sleep a wink” until Coogler gets an Oscar nomination for directing.
Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein starring Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac is also one of the top contenders for this year’s nominations. The Globes also honour the best in television, with the top Emmy nominees Severance and The Pitt for the dramas, The Studio and Hacks for the comedies, and limited series Adolescence expected to dominate the nominations. The highly anticipated award ceremony will reveal the winners on January 11, 2026.
