He did catch ‘em all. A Pokémon fan from Malaysia has become the talk of the internet after turning his lifelong passion into a fortune. What began as a childhood hobby of collecting Pokémon cards has now
made him a millionaire.
From a room in Shah Alam, west of Kuala Lumpur, collector Damiral Imran recently sold his entire Pokémon card collection for a jaw-dropping RM 1.87 million (approximately Rs 3.97 crore).
A Passion Worth Millions
Announcing the news through a Facebook post, Damiral wrote with excitement, “My Pokémon card collection officially SOLD for RM1,870,000.”
He shared that what started as a personal passion had grown into something much larger. “From a small room in Shah Alam to making history in the Pokémon world. This is more than a sale — it’s a story of passion, hard work and legacy,” he wrote.
A photograph he shared showed towering stacks of boxes filled with colourful cards. The collector explained that this sale was not just an end but the beginning of a new chapter.
“From passion to legacy, this marks one of the biggest moments in my journey. Every card, every box, every sleepless night — all worth it. This isn’t the end; it’s just the beginning of something even greater,” he said and thanked everyone who had supported him.
Amid everyone congratulating the feat, one commented, “You’re gonna regret this sale in 5 years and even more in 10 years.”
‘History, Rarity And Legacy’
Damiral had earlier listed the collection on Facebook, where he called it “history, rarity and legacy in one vault.” He revealed that before the final deal, he had already received offers as high as RM 1.68 million (around Rs 3.51 crore). To make things more exciting, he even promised a RM 50,000 (over Rs 10.4 lakh) commission to anyone who could connect him with a buyer.
He had also shared that whoever managed to close the deal would receive a One Piece card (inspired by the famous Japanese manga and anime worth) worth over RM 50,000 for free.
To show the true value of his treasure, Damiral posted screenshots from Shiny, a global card valuation tracker, estimating that his full stockpile was worth around RM 2 million (Rs 4.18 crore). He had also mentioned he was open to trading the entire collection for a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S plus RM 1 million (Rs 2 crore) in cash.
The Growing World of Pokémon Collectables
Pokémon cards, first released in Japan in 1996, have grown into one of the most popular collectables in the world. Rare editions have been sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars at international auctions.
Earlier this year, a first-edition holographic Charizard card in mint condition fetched over US$100,000 (Rs 88 lakh) in US. The most valuable Pokémon card ever remains the 1998 Pikachu Illustrator which YouTuber and boxer Logan Paul bought in 2022 for US$5.27 million (Rs 46 crore) in a private sale.
