“There aren’t many Leo Messi’s. There’s only one.”
Inter Miami interim head coach Guillermo Hoyos summed it up perfectly. Because even at 38, Lionel Messi continues to produce numbers that seem almost unreal.
And now, the Argentine icon has another historic milestone to add to his endless collection.
Messi starred once again as Inter Miami CF bounced back from last weekend’s chaotic 4-3 defeat to Orlando City with a commanding road win over Toronto FC. The victory extended Miami’s impressive six-game away winning streak and set up another crucial road clash against FC Cincinnati on May 13.
But the night ultimately belonged to Messi.
The World Cup winner scored once and provided two assists as Miami stormed into a four-goal lead before conceding two late
consolation goals. More importantly, those contributions pushed Messi to a staggering 100 goal involvements in MLS regular-season play. And he got there faster than anyone ever has before.
Messi reached the milestone in just 64 regular-season appearances, shattering the previous MLS record held by Sebastian Giovinco, who needed 95 matches to hit the same mark.
Since arriving in MLS in 2023, Messi has completely transformed the league’s spotlight and expectations. He now boasts 59 goals and 41 assists in regular-season play alone, numbers that feel even crazier considering he has spent barely three seasons in the competition.
The Argentine recently also became just the eighth player in Inter Miami history to make 100 appearances for the club across all competitions. And the overall numbers are absurd.
Messi now sits as Inter Miami’s all-time leading scorer and assist provider, with 87 goals and 57 assists in 101 appearances across competitions.
And with the 2026 FIFA World Cup just weeks away, Messi is expected to remain the heartbeat of Argentina’s title defence after guiding the nation to glory in 2022.
Through Messi’s 26 World Cup matches with Argentina, he’s recorded 13 goals, eight assists, a 2022 title and the Golden Boot, awarded to the tournament’s most valuable player.
Argentina will open up their tournament run on June 16 vs. Algeria, June 22 vs. Austria and June 27 vs. Algeria.
