Sumo wrestling star Hoshoryu Tomokatsu was in for a stunning surprise after becoming champion at the Grand Sumo Tournament, as the Mongolian professional received, wait for it, a giant soy sauce bottle
from the organisers as a prize.
Held at the Royal Albert Hall in London this week, the marquee event witnessed Hoshoryu defeating Japan’s Onosato Daiki in the final to end as the ultimate winner.
After showcasing his prowess against Daiki, Hoshoryu received loud applause from the packed arena in London before the organisers surprised the giant wrestler with a sumo-sized reward on stage.
The 26-year-old carried a look of amusement on his face after noticing his reward from a distance and received a massive bottle of Kikkoman Soy Sauce for his triumph. A video of the award ceremony from the event has since gone viral, leaving social media users in hysterics.

“Outrageous for the loser! You should never Kikkoman when he’s down!” quipped an individual.
In the spirit of the event, many others also joked over Hoshoryu holding the eye-catching soy sauce bottle in his hands as a reward for his victory.
A social media user wondered whether the huge bottle would be enough for the 6ft 2in, 150kg sumo wrestler? “That won’t even be enough to flavour his breakfast,” commented a person.
Another individual asked if Hoshoryu has a refrigerator big enough for the bottle. “Does he have a cool, dry place big enough to store that thing?” they asked.
Fortunately for Hoshoryu, the big bottle was only an additional award for the tournament’s winner by the sponsors.
The wrestler’s amazing win was soon duly rewarded with a special trophy for what was a rare edition of the Grand Sumo Tournament, held outside Japan for the first time since 1991. Back then, London also hosted the event at the Royal Albert Hall.
Despite a lengthy hiatus, London received Hoshoryu and 39 other giant wrestlers taking part in the tournament with great excitement. These sumo wrestlers flexed their power in multiple high-octane fixtures before Hoshoryu emerged as the winner by beating Daiki in the grand finale.
