Jana Nayagan, featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, is yet to hit screens, but the film’s audio launch had already sparked unexpected chatter online. Actress Mamitha Baiju found herself at the centre of social media attention after a brief singing moment on stage was widely turned into memes.
Now, Mamitha has addressed the trolling and shared how she processed the sudden wave of online reactions.
‘They Took It As Entertainment, And So Did I’
Speaking to Global Malayalam, Mamitha made it clear that she chose not to take the memes seriously. Viewing the situation with humour, she said that people consumed the clip as light entertainment, and she saw no reason to react differently.
“It all depends on how people receive it. They took it as entertainment,
and so did I. What problem would I have with it? It’s all in good fun,” she said, brushing off the online chatter.
At the audio launch, Mamitha had sung the title track from Vijay’s earlier film Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. The clip quickly circulated across platforms, spawning a series of memes that kept the internet busy for days.
More About Jana Nayagan
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is being positioned as Vijay’s final on-screen outing. The film revolves around Vetri Kondan, a former police officer and convict who adopts a young girl, Viji, and commits himself to raising her as a strong, independent individual. Despite her fear of violence, he encourages her to join the military.
As personal responsibility collides with national crisis, Vetri Kondan is drawn into a larger threat looming over the country—one that could have catastrophic consequences. A personal vendetta soon surfaces, pushing him to confront and expose the system at the heart of the chaos.
The film boasts a large ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, and Sunil, among others.
Release Update
Originally slated for a Pongal release, Jana Nayagan ran into certification delays with the CBFC, leading to legal intervention and a subsequent postponement. While no official date has been announced yet, industry buzz suggests the film could finally see a release towards the end of February.
