New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday joined ‘Teej’ celebrations at Mayor Pravesh Wahi’’s residence here, which was marked by traditional swings, festive delicacies and folk songs as the city celebrated the monsoon festival.
According to an official statement, Gupta attended the celebrations at 1 Lancer Road and extended her greetings to women observing the festival.
Mehndi was applied, and bangles were distributed to women at the event, bringing a festive touch to the mayor’s residence, the statement read.
The chief minister said folk festivals keep people connected with their culture and traditions and called for collective efforts to pass them on to the next generation.
She also linked the celebrations with the city’s
environmental goals, saying, “We wish Hariyali Teej would become an occasion that inspires people to make Delhi greener.” Gupta said the government and municipal councillors must work together to address the city’s long-standing issues.
She also highlighted progress in reducing the garbage mountains that have long been seen as a blot on Delhi’s image.
The rain on Thursday added to the festive atmosphere, Gupta said, noting that Hariyali Teej also reflects the traditional reverence for nature.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said folk festivals promote love, harmony and joy while keeping the country’s ancient traditions alive.
“Teej is an unbreakable bond that connects us with our culture, traditions and roots,” Wahi said, adding that Indian traditions hold rivers, mountains and nature in high regard.
The celebrations were attended by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Women Welfare and Child Development Committee chairperson Rekha Rani, vice-chairperson Shilpa Kaur, municipal councillors, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and other guests.
