Star Indian opening batter Smriti Mandhana entered her name in the history books on Wednesday, September 17, by breaking the record for scoring the fastest century in women’s ODIs against Australia. The left-handed batter needed just 77 balls in Mullanpur to complete her century during the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series between India and Australia.
Before Smriti, the record of scoring the fastest century in WODIs against Australia was in the name of star English batter Nat Sciver-Burnt. Sciver-Brunt completed her century in 79 balls against Australia during the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup match played in Hamilton on March 5, 2022.

Mandhana, who got out after scoring 117 runs from 91 balls on Wednesday, added 70 runs in 11.3 overs for the first wicket with Pratika Rawal (25), 49 runs for the second wicket with Harleen Deol (10) and 40 runs for the fourth wicket with Deepti Sharma.
In the first ODI of the ongoing series, Mandhana scored 58 runs from 63 balls. In that fixture she hammered six fours and two sixes during her stay at the crease, and on Wednesday, Mandhana smacked 14 fours and four sixes.
