Ghoshal soon filled the Indian dressing room with melodious vibes, singing one of her most popular and soulful songs – ‘Piyu Bole’ from the film Parineeta. As the great singer soothed their ears with her voice, Indian players wore a look of great appreciation and enjoyed their brief escape from the pressure of expectations ahead of the bout with the Lankans.
Moments after Ghoshal ended her song, all the players and coaching staff members gave her a huge round of applause before Rodrigues stood on a chair and pleastantly surprised Ghoshal with an Indian Idol reference, saying: ‘Aap Mumbai aa rahe ho (you can come to Mumbai).”
Rodrigues’ comment got everyone laughing inside the dressing room, including Ghoshal.
As is known, Ghoshal is one of the judges on the popular Indian television show.
Contestants who manage to impress Ghoshal and other judges are told to come to Mumbai for the next round of auditions. The remark ‘aap Mumbai aa sakte ho’ has also become part of meme culture on social media.
India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and Rodrigues interacted with Ghoshal and told her about one of her biggest fans, left-arm spinner Radha Yadav.
The duo pulled Yadav’s leg, telling Ghoshal she would go crazy even if she hums one of her tunes. Later on, captain Harmanpreet warmly hugged Ghoshal before the legendary singer posed for a photo with the players.
