Ranbir Kapoor Sanjay Leela Bhansali Movie Update: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra is among his most anticipated films, and the director has spent more than 20 years nurturing the project. Over the years, numerous reports have surfaced regarding the film’s casting, and ultimately, the project was put on hold so that the director could focus on Love and War. Now, a new report claims that SLB has ‘gifted’ the film to his hero, Ranbir Kapoor, on his birthday.

A Deccan Chronicle report quoted a source as saying, “SLB’s team has already begun pre-production work. Ranbir, a huge admirer of vintage music, starts his mornings with classics from the 1950s, including songs from the original Baiju Bawra released in 1952. He’s even introducing his daughter

Raha to this timeless music.”

Ranbir Kapoor will soon be seen as one of the leads in SLB’s Love and War. As per the report, the filmmaker has presented Baiju Bawra to the actor as a gift on his 43rd birthday. The film was originally supposed to star Ranveer Singh, as per reports. Some reports also claimed that Ranveer had already started prepping for the film before SLB decided to shift focus to Heeramandi and Love and War.

Cast Chaos: Ranbir Or Ranveer, Deepika Or Alia?

However, it is important to note that a final cast was never announced. Previously, a report claimed that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt had been roped in as the leads in the film. “Ranveer has been in discussion with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the longest time, and after all the ups and downs through the journey, the duo is reuniting on Baiju Bawra. The finances were an issue, but Ranveer has always been an actor to chase the craft and script over monies and hence has decided to get into a deal that benefits Bhansali to put in all the monies in making the film. Baiju Bawra is expected to take off in early 2024,” a source told Pinkvilla previously.

While it left their fans excited to see the Gully Boy and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani duo come together for the third time, a source exclusively told News18 that reports surrounding the cast were not true. “Baiju Bawra is the most speculated film of the year because of the high interest in SLB’s projects. But there is nothing confirmed when it comes to casting,” said an independent industry source. They further added, “Only SLB knows who he wants for it; it is all visualised in his mind.”

Even before that, some reports claimed that the film was supposed to star Ranbir and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, along with Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. However, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “Ranbir is confused between Baiju Bawra and a Dharma project. He does not seem keen to work with Bhansali again. His experience with Bhansali in his last project, Saawariya, was not so great. The actor-director duo has not worked together ever since.”

Interestingly, even this report was refuted by some industry insiders, leading to more confusion. As per a SpotBoyE report, Ranbir was never offered the role, so there was no scope of turning down an offer. The report further informed that the only time Ranbir turned down an offer by Bhansali was when the actor was offered Guzaarish.

Baiju Bawra Plot

While specific details surrounding the film are under wraps, it is said to be a fully-fledged musical film centred around two singers. As per reports, this film is a remake of the 1955 film, Baiju Bawra, starring late actors Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari. The film featured a young musician named Baiju who goes up to challenge the famous maestro Tansen in Mughal Emperor Akbar’s court.
