The entire political landscape of Tamil Nadu has shifted overnight as Vijay’s TVK scripted a historic win in the state elections, and while the experts were busy with exit polls, Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has pointed to a much humbler source of truth: the village farmer and the airport security guard.
As Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) shatters the decades-old DMK-AIADMK duopoly in the 2026 Assembly Elections, Vembu’s public “mea culpa” has gone viral, highlighting how the grassroots pulse outperformed high-level data, and certainly his own reading of the Vijay momentum.
The “Common Sense” Win: Vembu Admits He Misread The Wave
Taking to X, Sridhar Vembu acknowledged that while he initially predicted a win for the established Dravidian giants due to their organizational muscle, the “ground chatter”
he dismissed as anecdotal turned out to be the ultimate reality.
“The Delhi Airport security guy and the farmer from my village (the former Annamalai volunteer) proved so prescient,” Vembu wrote on May 4. “To be perfectly honest, I had NO idea myself, and I was reporting what they said, unprompted.”

On May 1, Vembu had shared two curious encounters. At Delhi Airport, a security staffer, spotting Vembu’s Tamil attire, excitedly asked, “Sir, Vijay Thalapathi win?” And in the village, a savvy farmer and former Annamalai volunteer told Vembu, “Vijay is going to cause a surprise in our booth.”
While Vembu remained skeptical of a total upset at the time, today’s results—showing TVK emerging as the single largest party and MK Stalin losing his stronghold in Kolathur—have turned those anecdotes into prophecy.
“The Pulse of the Nation”
The thread has sparked intense discussion on X, with users praising Vembu’s candor and the “MGR 2.0” effect of the TVK wave. “Nevertheless, your observations were spot on as the whole country was expecting a miracle to happen. Most wanted this to happen, but were too humble to project a big win like this,” wrote one user. Another added, “Hope now you will be supported largely by TN govt for your vision to make TN leading tech hub Sir. Big fan of your vision in rural areas 🔥”
People were ecstatic about Vijay’s win across social media. “It’s clear that Tamil Nadu needs a change, and Vijay has filled that gap,” one user added, while another person commented, “Pure common sense won the day! That Delhi airport security guy and the farmer from your village (ex-Annamalai volunteer) turned out to be spot on. Respect for sharing their unprompted views — they caught the real pulse of the nation when even you didn’t see it coming.”
