India faced England in the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series on Tuesday (July 7) and suffered a humiliating 125-run defeat. In the match played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the visitors could only manage 76 runs in reply to England’s total of 201/7. Jofra Archer picked up three wickets for the hosts and Josh Tongue accounted for the dismissal of four Indian batters to help England secure a comprehensive victory and take a 2-0 lead in the series.
The humiliating defeat in Nottingham marked the first time in 20 years that India had lost a T20I match by a margin of more than 100 runs.
Since winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title for a record-extending third time in March 2026, India have lost four of their last five matches and are
still waiting for their first win.
Prior to the defeat against England in Nottingham, India’s biggest margin of defeat in a T20I match was 80 runs. On February 6, 2019, New Zealand defeated India by 80 runs in Wellington.

India’s previous biggest defeat in a T20I match on English soil was by 17 runs against England in Nottingham on July 10, 2022.
The world record for the biggest defeat in T20I history is held by Gambia. The African side suffered a 290-run defeat against Zimbabwe in Nairobi (Ruaraka) on October 23, 2024.
England’s 125-run win on Tuesday was their fifth victory by a margin of more than 100 runs in T20Is. They had earlier defeated South Africa by 146 runs, West Indies by 137 runs, Afghanistan by 116 runs, and Australia by 100 runs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi top-scored for India in the second T20I by playing a knock of 13 runs off 5 balls, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan also scored 13 runs. Apart from them, only Abhishek Sharma (10 runs) and Axar Patel (10 runs) managed to score in double digits.
The defeat against England in Nottingham was India’s fourth defeat under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership.
