Guwahati, Apr 18 (PTI) The Army, NDRF, SDRF, and SSB conducted a joint flood relief exercise, ‘Jal Rahat’, on Saturday, showcasing interagency synergy and interoperability during challenging times of natural calamities.
The exercise was initiated by the Red Horns Division of Gajraj Corps on behalf of the Indian Army at IIT, Guwahati, to demonstrate inter-agency coordination and disaster preparedness by the flood relief columns of the Army, NDRF, SDRF and SSB.
The exercise showcased modalities of conduct of flood relief operations, role of various agencies, use of high-end technology and innovative means for conduct of rescue operations during floods, a Defence release said.
‘Exercise Jal Rahat’ was conceptualised and designed to enhance response
capability in the event of severe flooding.
An Indian Army specialist team, supported by other agencies, depicted rescue missions incorporated and simulated actual scenarios, the employment of drones for surveillance and logistic outreach to stranded villagers, and the evacuation of drowning individuals.
Apart from this, specialist teams of the Army, NDRF and SDRF showcased their skills in deep water rescue operations.
Gajraj Corps General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lt Gen Neeraj Shukla, senior officials from the Army, state administration, SSB, CAPFs and disaster relief organisations, along with cadets from NCC and NSS and students from various schools and colleges of Guwahati were present on the occasion.
The GOC urged all ranks of the Army, SSB, NDRF, SDRF and NCC Cadets to adopt a ”whole-of-society approach for nation building” by following the mantra of four ‘Ps’ – Predict, Prepare, Protect and Provide.
The participating agencies, in coordination with the Indian Army, have committed to conducting regular joint training sessions, updating SOPs and disaster relief plans and investing in capacity building for an effective emergency response mechanism, the release added. PTI DG DG RG
