Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5 to attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and hold discussions with US officials on the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), the Commerce Ministry said on Monday.
Goyal will attend the G20 meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 30 and October 1 at the invitation of the US Trade Representative. The meeting will bring together trade ministers from G20 countries, with India set to push for a rules-based, open, transparent and inclusive multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts on expanding opportunities
for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, MSMEs and other businesses.
Goyal To Hold India-US Trade Talks
A key part of Goyal’s visit will be his engagement with his US counterpart as India and the US continue discussions on their Bilateral Trade Agreement.
The two countries have been working towards a balanced and mutually beneficial trade agreement, with an interim deal also being discussed in line with the Joint Statement issued on February 7, 2026.
The government said Goyal’s discussions with his US counterpart would focus on advancing the BTA and working towards finalising an interim agreement.
Meetings With American Businesses And Startups
During his visit to Milwaukee and Chicago, Goyal will meet chief executives of leading American companies from sectors including manufacturing, consumer goods, agri-business, retail and technology.
He will also participate in roundtables with businesses, startups and innovative companies. The minister will highlight the opportunities India offers as a manufacturing and investment destination and invite American companies to deepen partnerships with Indian businesses.
Goyal To Pay Tributes To Gandhi, Vivekananda
In Chicago, Goyal will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti and to Swami Vivekananda. He will also interact with professional associations representing the Indian community.
The government said the visit is aimed at further strengthening the trade and investment partnership between India and the US and deepening India’s engagement with its G20 partners.
