Horn and Ivory, directed by Vineet Yadav and produced by journalist-turned-filmmaker Latha Warrier under the banner of Shadow Players, is a psychological crime drama set within the film industry. The story follows Myra, an aspiring actor navigating a space where ambition, identity and perception often collide.
At its core, the film looks at how people see themselves and the world around them. As Myra moves forward in her career, the line between reality and illusion begins to blur. The narrative draws on the classical idea of the “Gates of Horn and Ivory,” a metaphor that separates truthful visions from deceptive dreams, and uses it to explore how perception can shape experience.
Rather than focusing on external action, the film is built around
internal conflict. It looks at the emotional and psychological cost of ambition, especially in an industry where success is often tied to image and perception. The tension comes from uncertainty, as Myra’s journey raises questions about what is real and what is constructed.
Daria Gavrushenko plays the lead role, with Ankit Bathla and a supporting cast that adds to the film’s world. The performances remain grounded, keeping the story focused on character rather than spectacle.
The film has also drawn attention for the way it was made. Horn and Ivory was completed in just nine days, a tight schedule for a feature-length film. Despite this, it was shot on a RED Helium 8K camera, giving it a visual quality that stands in contrast to its limited production window.
Director Vineet Yadav brings a background that combines psychology, film and television, which reflects in the film’s approach to character and narrative. Producer Latha Warrier’s experience across writing, journalism and academia shapes the storytelling sensibility, giving the film a more reflective tone.
Horn and Ivory was selected under the Indian Panorama section at the Chennai International Film Festival in 2023. It has also been officially selected for the Delhi International Film Festival 2026 and has received recognition at international festivals.
The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the United States and Australia.
