Actress Sonakshi Sinha recently shared a series of serene photos from her visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi with her husband, actor Zaheer Iqbal. The couple, who tied the knot in June
2024, seemed to be enjoying a peaceful getaway. However, a section of the internet turned critical when one troll accused Sonakshi of disrespecting religious sentiments by wearing footwear inside the mosque.
The Troll’s Comment And Sonakshi’s Calm Response
Under her post, a user commented, “Jutton ke saat masjid mai jana bohot barra gunnah hai.” (Going to the mosque wearing shoes is a very big sin.)
Sonakshi, who is known for responding to negativity with composure, didn’t stay silent. She replied with clarity and grace, setting the record straight, “Isilye jooton ke saat andar nahi gaye. Dhyan se dekho, masjid ke bahar hi hai hum. Andar jaane se pehle unhone humein joote rakhne ki jagah dikhayi aur utaar diye. Itna toh humein bhi aata hai. Chaliye, ab aage badhiye.”
(That’s why we didn’t go inside wearing shoes. Look carefully, we’re just outside the mosque. Before going in, they showed us where to keep our shoes, and we took them off. Even we know that much. Now, let’s move on.)
Fans applauded the actress for her dignified response and her ability to shut down misinformation without losing her cool.
Sharing photos from her visit, Sonakshi captioned her post, “Found a little sukoon, right here in Abu Dhabi.”
Sonakshi Sinha Opens Up About Her Interfaith Marriage
Ever since her wedding to Zaheer Iqbal, Sonakshi has often been the target of online trolling because of their interfaith marriage. Despite this, she continues to handle the criticism with poise and confidence.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi shared that religion has never been a point of conflict in her relationship. Instead, both she and Zaheer embrace each other’s beliefs and cultural practices, “I respect them and their culture, and they respect me and mine. That’s how it should be,” she said.
She further explained that their marriage under the Special Marriage Act allowed both to retain their individual faiths, “Under the best circumstances, the best way to get married was through a special marriage act where I, as a Hindu woman, don’t need to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim man. There was never a question like, ‘Are you going to convert?’ We love each other, and we’re getting married. It was as simple as that.”
Balancing Traditions and Respect
Sonakshi also revealed that both families participate in each other’s festivals and traditions — Zaheer joins her for the Diwali puja, while she takes part in their niyaaz. The actress said this mutual respect keeps their bond grounded and harmonious, “It’s about understanding and balance. Both sides have been incredibly supportive,” she added.
A Love Story Beyond Religion
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot on June 23, 2024, in an intimate ceremony at her Mumbai residence after seven years of dating. Their union, marked by simplicity and love, has continued to inspire discussions about modern relationships that go beyond religious and cultural divides.
