Who Is Sudha Chandran?
Sudha Chandran is much more than the moment that made headlines. Born and raised in Mumbai, originally from Vayalur in Tamil Nadu, she is one of Indian television’s most respected performers. Her father, KD Chandran, was a veteran actor, and her own journey into cinema and dance skills is nothing short of inspiring.
At the age of 16, Sudha survived a tragic car accident that severely injured both her legs, which led to the amputation of her right leg. Despite this setback, she reinvented herself with the aid of a prosthetic limb and continued to pursue her passion for dance and acting.
A Biopic Celebrating Sudha Chandran’s Journey
Her story was celebrated in the 1984 Telugu film Mayuri. The biopic chronicled her journey as a teenage dancer who lost her leg in a tragic accident. Her performance was so powerful that she won the Special Jury National Award in 1985. Over the decades, Sudha has established herself as a versatile actress and appeared in films across languages.
She also made a lasting mark on Indian television with shows like Kaahin Kissii Roz, where she played Ramola Sikand, as well as Naagin, Yeh Hain Mohabbatein, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Mata Ki Chowki. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, she has also served as a celebrity judge on reality dance shows, demonstrating her discipline in the art form.
