Delhi is poised to take to the skies with its first hot air balloon rides, which successfully completed trials at Baansera Park on Tuesday. Operations will open to the public on Saturday.
This initiative marks the city’s first organised balloon tourism venture, adding a new adventure attraction along the Yamuna floodplains.
Lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced that the balloons would be operated by a licensed company, promising top-tier safety and an exhilarating experience along the Yamuna. Saxena, who participated in the trial, confirmed that rides will be available for Delhi residents from Saturday at
Baansera.Plans are underway to expand this offering to Asita, Yamuna Sports Complex, and CWG Village Sports Complex in the coming

DDA officials stated that this move is part of a broader effort to activate the Yamuna floodplains with low-impact recreational activities, promoting ecotourism and attracting more visitors to its redeveloped riverfront parks. The agency has already introduced cycling tracks, nature trails, and boating facilities in parts of the floodplain; balloon rides are expected to add a fresh, high-visibility attraction.
“This new recreational and adventure activity by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is another step forward in making Delhi a vibrant city with enhanced recreational amenities and world-class infrastructure,” said the L-G.
Baansera, a bamboo-themed park spanning 10 hectares in the Yamuna floodplains, was developed ahead of the G-20 summit. The park features various types of bamboo saplings from different parts of the country, including Assam. The area is divided into the Bamboo Recreation and Bamboo Plantation sections.
Officials indicated that the rides will operate during designated hours and adhere to strict weather and safety protocols. The launch is anticipated to attract significant public interest as Delhi embarks on a new adventure tourism experience for the first time.
Details regarding the timetable and ticket prices are yet to be announced.
