Manchester, Jul 4 (PTI) India posted a competitive 190 for seven against England in the second T20I here on Saturday as 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his much-awaited international debut, while openers Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan led the batting effort.
Boy wonder Sooryavanshi became India’s youngest international debutant at 15 years and 99 days, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record, but his debut did not go as planned as he managed 14 off 10 balls, including two sixes.
It was Sooryavanshi’s opening partner Abhishek who provided the early impetus with a blistering 43 off 24 balls, before Kishan (49 off 40) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (37 off 22) took charge, adding 65 runs for the third wicket to keep India on course for a fighting
total.
Some late-order fireworks from Tilak Varma (24 not out off 11 balls) lifted India to a healthy total.
England left-arm pacer Sam Curran was the most successful snaring three wickets for 33 runs.
Brief scores: India 190 for 7 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 43, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 14, Shreyas Iyer 37, Ishan Kishan 49, Tilak Varma 24 not out; Sam Curran 3/33). PTI AM AM TAP
