Pregnant Woman Dies In Bihar After 'Doctor' Operates While Watching YouTube

In a disturbing incident from a rural village in Bihar, a pregnant woman allegedly died after undergoing a surgical procedure performed by an unqualified practitioner who reportedly relied on YouTube videos for guidance. The newborn, however, survived.

The incident took place in Kahalgaon area of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district where the pregnant woman was taken to a private clinic near Shrimath Sthan in the Ekchari Panchayat area, which was being run by an unqualified man posing as a doctor, alleged locals and the victim’s family.

The deceased has been identified as Swati Devi, a native of Thakurganti Modhiya in Jharkhand. Her husband, Vikram Sah, works as a labourer. Following her pregnancy, Swati had been staying at her maternal home in Rasalpur,

where her mother, Sushma Devi, was overseeing her treatment.

Family members said that late at night, Swati developed severe labour pain and was rushed to the same clinic where she had been receiving treatment. After examining her, the practitioner allegedly told the family that a surgical procedure was necessary and sought their consent. It is alleged that the man then attempted to carry out the surgery after watching videos on YouTube, without proper medical infrastructure or the presence of a qualified specialist.

Local residents claimed that during the surgery, the man and his assistant repeatedly referred to videos on their mobile phones. Due to alleged negligence and lack of expertise, Swati suffered excessive bleeding and died during the operation. The baby was delivered safely.

After the woman’s death, the accused practitioner and his assistant reportedly told the family that her condition was critical and advised them to take her to another hospital. They then shut the clinic and fled the scene.

As news of the death spread, angry family members and villagers gathered outside the clinic, placing the woman’s body there and staging a protest. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and strict action against the illegal clinic.

Police from Rasalpur reached the spot after being informed, brought the situation under control, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. An investigation was initiated.

Local resident Rajesh Kumar alleged that this was not the first such incident at the clinic. He claimed that earlier too, treatments and procedures were carried out after watching online videos, but the matters were repeatedly suppressed. He demanded justice for the victim’s family and stringent action against those running illegal medical facilities.
