Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has brought the curtain down on his decade-long association with JSW Sports, announcing the launch of his own athlete management firm, Vel Sports.
Chopra had been
managed by JSW Sports since 2016, a period that coincided with the rise of Indian athletics’ biggest modern icon. Calling the partnership “defining,” the 27-year-old said the journey was built on belief, growth and shared success.
“JSW Sports has played a defining role in my career, and I’ll always remain grateful for their support and vision,” Chopra said, adding that he now carries those same values into the next phase of his journey.
JSW Sports CEO Divyanshu Singh echoed the sentiment, describing the partnership as a source of pride and praising Chopra’s achievements as a reflection of their shared philosophy of excellence.
During his time with JSW Sports, Chopra rewrote Indian sporting history — becoming the country’s first Olympic gold medallist in track and field at Tokyo 2021, winning World Championship gold in 2023, and adding Olympic silver at Paris 2024, alongside multiple podium finishes on the global circuit.
The split was described by both sides as amicable, marked by “deep respect and pride.”
Meanwhile, Chopra’s competitive return remains uncertain. The javelin star is still recovering from a back injury sustained ahead of last year’s World Championships, which limited him to an eighth-place finish at the Tokyo World Championships 2025.
According to World Athletics vice-president and AFI spokesperson Adille Sumariwalla, Chopra is yet to decide when he will open his 2026 season, with fitness and recovery the clear priority.
