Delhi Capitals were hammered at home by defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday in an absolute drubbing as RCB bundled out DC for a mere 75 runs before completing the chase in just 6.3 overs.
Former Indian batter, World Cup-winner and chief of selectors, Krishnamachari Srikanth, enumerated the moments and factors that have taken the wind out of DC’s sails this season.
“Delhi lost their morale in their previous game, when they failed to defend the massive 264-run total as they messed up on the field,” Cheeka, as he is fondly known, said.
“They haven’t gotten over it. They haven’t gotten over Lungisani Ngidi’ injury,” Srikanth added.
“Their slide started from their game against GT, when David Miller passed up on the single and they
wen on to lose the game from 2 to win from 2 balls,” he said.
“They won one game after that,” the swashbuckling batter said.
Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran riot against the Delhi batting order as they duo ended with a four-fer and a three-wicket-haul respectively. Suyash Sharma, Rashik Salam and Krunal Pandya picked up a wicket each to round up the DC unit for a paltry 75 runs thanks to impact player Abhishek Porel’s 30-run contribution.
RCB went on to finis the chase with 81 balls and 9 wickets left to spare as Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten on 23 and 34 runs respectively after Jacob Bethell departed following a 20-run contribution.
RCB are placed second in the league table in the ongoing edition of the money-rich T20 franchise league with 12 points in 8 outings, and are placed firmly to secure a playoff berth.
While, Delhi, who started the season with back-to-back and looked primed for a promising run in the tournament, have slipped to 7th in the league table with just 3 wins in 8 outings.
