A Jaipur-based businessman who once drove an auto-rickshaw for a livelihood purchased a whopping Rs 31 lakh worth VIP registration number for his son’s new luxury car.
As per reports, the businessman, Rahul Taneja, purchased Rajasthan’s most expensive registration number, RJ 60 CM 0001, from the Jaipur Railway Transport Office for a brand-new Audi RS Q8 SUV, a gift to his son on his 18th birthday.
Taneja’s early life was marked by struggle. Born in a small village of Katra in Madhya Pradesh, he began working as a waiter at a roadside dhaba in Jaipur. For his whole day’s work, he used to get Rs 150 at the end of the month. His father used to repair bicycle punctures while his mother used to work in the fields.
Along with his Dhaba job, he took admission
in Adarsh Vidya Mandir located in Rajapark and started studying on his own. As per reports, Rahul continued his studies by borrowing books and notebooks from his friends and secured 92% marks.
For two years, he served tea and snacks before turning to street sales to support his family. He used to sell firecrackers during Diwali, colours during Holi, and kites during Makar Sankranti. By the age of 16, Taneja had taken to driving an auto-rickshaw at Jaipur’s Durgapura railway station.
Having good looks, he also pursued modelling on the advice of his friends. With his 6-foot frame and good looks, he won the titles of Mr Jaipur, Mr Rajasthan, and Male of the Year. He continued to do fashion shows for 8 months, and while doing fashion shows, Rahul also used to keep an eye on how these shows were organised.
Later, he saved enough to open a small car dealership. In 2000, he established an event management company called Live Creations, followed by IndianArtist dot com in 2005, an artist management agency with offices in Mumbai. A decade later, he ventured into luxury wedding planning under the banner Rahul Taneja Premium Weddings.
But, he made the headlines in 2018 when he purchased a Rs 16 lakh number plate RJ45 CG 001 for his brand luxury car. In 2011, he bought RJ 14 CP 0001 for his BMW 7 Series for Rs 10 lakh — then a record for Rajasthan. Seven years later, he spent another Rs 16 lakh for RJ 45 CG 0001 for his Jaguar XJL.
