Chandigarh, Jun 24 (PTI) A number of farmers on Wednesday learned about sustainable farming practices and soil health management at an awareness programme in Rewari district.
The programme was held in Khaliawas and Khatwali villages by SGT University Gurugram, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Rewari, and IFFCO Haryana under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026.
The programme was aimed at educating farmers about balanced fertiliser use, soil conservation, organic farming and government schemes for the farming community, according to a release.
Experts informed farmers about Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), which encourages the balanced use of organic and chemical fertilisers to maintain soil fertility and improve crop productivity.
They also highlighted the importance of scientific nutrient management, soil carbon conservation and long-term soil health.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly and cost-effective practices such as vermicomposting, biofertilisers and crop diversification.
Experts said cultivation of fruits, exotic vegetables and flowers could help enhance farm income while reducing environmental impact.
The programme was addressed by Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Pooja Pant, R K Yadav, Om Prakash and Narendra Bhandari, along with experts from KVK Rewari and IFFCO Haryana.
The speakers urged farmers to reduce excessive dependence on chemical fertilisers and adopt sustainable farming methods that improve productivity while conserving natural resources.
Pant informed farmers about the Soil Testing Laboratory at SGT University, which provides soil testing and advisory services to help farmers manage nutrients efficiently and improve crop yields.
