US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Sunday praised the growing defence partnership between India and the United States during a visit to an AH-64E Apache attack helicopter centre. The visit underscored the close military cooperation between the two countries and their shared focus on strengthening regional security.
Gor described the Apache helicopter as a powerful example of joint defence efforts, highlighting its advanced technology and operational value for India’s armed forces.
In a post on X, Gor said he was “thrilled” to visit the AH-64E Apache along with US Army Secretary Driscoll. He called the helicopter a strong symbol of the joint vision shared by US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a robust US-India defence
partnership.
He said the cutting-edge American helicopters help boost India’s defence capabilities, support training and technology cooperation, and contribute to security across the wider region.
India-US defence agreement
The visit comes months after India and the United States signed a landmark 10-year agreement titled the “Framework for the US-India Major Defence Partnership”. The pact was signed on October 31, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur.
The agreement aims to deepen coordination between the two countries, expand technology sharing, and strengthen defence industrial ties. It marked a significant step in long-term military cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.
The defence engagement is taking place amid ongoing trade talks between India and the United States. Sergio Gor assumed charge as the US Ambassador to India earlier this month.
