India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a fresh western disturbance, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across large parts of the country in the coming days.
Northwest India is expected to experience active weather conditions, with hill states likely to receive widespread rain, thunderstorms and snowfall in higher reaches. In the plains, covering Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, weather activity may occur intermittently, bringing brief showers, lightning and strong winds.
Parts of the region could also face isolated hailstorms and thundersqualls, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph, increasing the possibility of localised disruptions.
The eastern and northeastern regions are also likely to remain under
the influence of the western disturbance, leading to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya may receive heavy rain in isolated pockets, while Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal could see gusty winds, lightning and occasional hailstorms.
Central India may witness scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, along with the possibility of isolated hailstorms. In southern India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana are expected to receive light to moderate rain, with heavy spells possible in isolated areas during the period.
Cloudy Conditions Likely In Delhi
In Delhi, the IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies with the possibility of thunderstorms developing towards Sunday evening. Light rain or drizzle, along with strong surface winds, may occur at times, offering brief relief from the heat even as weather conditions remain variable. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 31–33°C, while the minimum may hover between 17–19°C.
Further, Delhi is expected to witness partly cloudy skies on April 6, bringing brief relief. However, cloud cover along with light rain is likely to return on April 7 and 8. According to the IMD forecast, “one or two spells of very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds speed 30–40 kmph” are expected on these days.
The weather department has also indicated that partly cloudy conditions may continue in the capital until April 10, helping keep temperatures in check during the first half of the month.
