Kochi, Aug 29 (PTI) The Keralam government on Saturday decided not to extend the tenure of Kochi Metro Managing Director Loknath Behera and has given temporary additional charge of the post to Ernakulam District Collector Priyanka G, officials said.
Priyanka will assume charge as Kochi Metro Rail Limited MD on August 31, following the completion of Behera’s tenure on August 30, according to an order issued by the Transport Department on Saturday.
She will hold the additional charge along with her responsibilities as Ernakulam District Collector until further orders.
Behera, a former Kerala police chief, was appointed KMRL managing director on a re-employment basis for three years in August 2021 after his retirement.
His tenure was subsequently extended
in 2024 and 2025.
Recently, Behera had courted controversy after proposing to change the name of Kochi Metro Rail Limited to Kerala Metro Rail Limited.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan had said he was unaware of any such move.
Behera, who hails from Odisha, had also served in the CBI and NIA before being appointed Kerala police chief during the tenure of the Pinarayi Vijayan government. PTI TBA TBA ROH
