London, Oct 12 (PTI) The India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) dialogue will be reconvened by trade ministers of both countries this week after a four-year hiatus, a move welcomed by industry with a series of sector-wise priorities.
The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) said it had created six industry-led Sector Working Groups in time for JETCO 2026, bringing together leading businesses and experts from across the corridor to identify blocks to further investment and flag opportunities for deeper and wider trade.
The findings of the groups set out practical steps to address barriers to trade and investment and strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.
“JETCO brings government and industry together to drive an ambitious
UK-India trade and investment relationship,” said UKIBC CEO Dr Kishore Jayaraman.
“With six substantive reports, industry has put clear priorities and practical recommendations on the table. We look forward to working with the UK government and our partners in India to take these priorities forward through the JETCO dialogue and translate them into tangible outcomes for businesses in both countries,” he said.
The India-UK JETCO is a government-to-government forum
for advancing the bilateral trade and investment relationship, with industry engagement helping to ensure that the priorities and experiences of industry inform the dialogue.
It will be co-chaired by UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi.
It coincides with Reynolds leading the first major trade delegation to India since the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) came into effect in mid-July.
The UKIBC said its working groups, working since earlier this year, focus on six key sectors: Advanced Manufacturing; Construction, Infrastructure & Clean Energy; Consumer Goods, Food & Drink; Creative, Sport & Education; Financial & Professional Business Services; and Science, Life Sciences & Technology.
It said that their analysis has led to “high-impact recommendations, setting out clear industry priorities and actionable recommendations to improve market access, facilitate investment, strengthen policy and regulatory cooperation, and unlock new commercial opportunities.”
The focus is on helping inform discussions at JETCO 2026, providing policymakers with direct industry perspectives on where targeted action could deliver meaningful outcomes for businesses operating across the UK-India corridor.
The UKIBC, as a policy advocacy and strategic consulting not-for-profit with a mission to grow India-UK trade and investment, said the reinstatement of JETCO comes at an important point in the bilateral partnership to address sector-specific issues and ensure tangible progress on the priorities identified by businesses on both sides.
