Mumbai, Sep 1 (PTI) The Central Industrial Security Force on Tuesday took charge of the security of an ISRO propellant complex at Rasayani in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
The facility functions under the Department of Space and is a unit of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
It acts as a source of earth-storable oxidiser required for operational launch vehicles, including PSLV, GSLV and LVM3, a CISF statement said.
The propellant complex is located in Raigad district, about 80 km from Mumbai.
The statement said an induction ceremony was held at the complex, which was attended by senior officials from the CISF and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
“The security of such specialised facilities assumes significance in view of the strategic
importance of India’s space programme and the increasing need to protect critical infrastructure against conventional as well as emerging security threats.
“The induction of CISF is aimed at providing a dedicated and professionally structured security framework at the facility,” the statement said.
The CISF provides counter-terrorist security cover to sensitive and strategic government installations in the space, nuclear and energy domains as part of its charter. PTI NES ARI ARI
