An employee has shared how a single moment changed the direction of his career and helped him grow his salary six times in just four years. He explained that he had spent years feeling stuck, unsure if
things would ever get better, but one decision opened doors he never expected.
In his Reddit post, he uploaded his income tax returns to show the jump in his earnings. He said his journey began at TCS, where he worked for a long time but felt the growth was too slow. He often felt his days were filled with calls and tickets, and he wanted to work on something more challenging.
How The Jump From TCS To A Product Company Changed Everything
The man said he was earning a little under Rs 15 lakh per year at TCS, and even after working hard, he didn’t see much improvement. “I started in service-based companies. I worked hard. But the growth was slow… Most of the time, it felt like I was only doing calls and tickets,” he wrote.
With 15 years of experience already behind him, he decided it was time to aim higher and prepare for product-based companies.
He began studying for interviews, even though he knew the process would be tough. He admitted that he went through several rejections before one company finally selected him. That moment changed his entire path.
How One ‘Yes’ Helped Him Multiply His Salary
After getting his first job in a product-based company, his salary doubled from around Rs 15 LPA to nearly Rs 30 LPA. He said the move gave him better work, more chances to learn and a lot more confidence. He kept improving his skills and switching jobs when the right opportunities came his way.
Eventually, he landed a role at a FAANG company (FAANG refers to five major tech giants: Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google), taking his salary to Rs 90 lakh per year. “That one yes, changed everything. Better work. Better learning. Better money. Better confidence,” he wrote.

Why He Wants Others Not To Give Up
The man shared his story to encourage anyone feeling stuck. “You may feel you cannot grow. You may feel others are lucky and you are not. But your life can change fast if you keep trying,” he wrote on Reddit, urging people to trust their abilities and keep improving their skills.
The post, shared on November 18, drew more than 500 upvotes and many comments. Many users congratulated him and said his story was encouraging.
A person wrote that in the corporate world, and in life, people grow only when they keep learning and don’t give up, adding, “Real growth is always painfully boring.”
Another user asked him to share more details about his journey so others could learn from it. Someone else said they were doing a data science course from scratch and wanted a small roadmap or tips to follow a similar path.
A user was curious about the salary and asked how he was earning so much while working with agentic AI, saying they were in a Big 4 company but getting paid very little. Another person wanted to know if a higher salary meant a heavier workload.
