Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has been released on Saturday, a day after he was detained by Delhi Police during the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ campaign in Connaught Place, New Delhi.
After being released, Dipke shared a post on X featuring a picture of actor Shah Rukh Khan along with the caption, “How it feels walking out of jail after 24 hours with no wifi and phone.”
Dipke was detained on Friday ahead of the CJP’s planned protest at Central Park in Connaught Place. The party had announced the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ campaign as part of its wider protest over electoral reforms and its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi Police had cited restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha
Sanhita (BNSS) and said the proposed gathering did not have the required permission from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Before his detention, Dipke had questioned the police action, saying he was walking alone and carrying the national flag. “Why are you stopping me? I am walking completely alone; there is no crowd with me. Is waving the Tiranga a crime in this country?” he had said.
The CJP had maintained that the campaign was intended to be peaceful and had urged supporters to avoid a large gathering, move in small groups, hold the national flag and disperse.
Dipke’s release comes a day after police detained several protesters in different parts of Delhi amid restrictions around Connaught Place. Police had said that a brief Tricolour march was eventually allowed in the inner circle of Connaught Place.
