15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who topped the list of batters with the most runs in the recently concluded 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is all set to earn his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland and England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors are set to meet in Mumbai on Saturday (June 6) to pick India’s squads for the upcoming two shortest-format series in Ireland and England, and in all likelihood, Sooryavanshi will be part of the squads.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set for his maiden call-up, as the national selectors look ahead to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and the next T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand the same year,” ESPNCricinfo reported.
The left-handed
batter from Bihar, who won the Player of the Tournament award in the U19 World Cup earlier this year, impressed everyone with his batting in IPL 2026. He batted at a strike rate of 237.30 and finished the tournament with a record total of 776 runs in 16 matches.
In 16 matches for Rajasthan Royals as an opening batter in the world’s richest franchise cricket league, he hammered 72 sixes, which are the most by any player in a T20 series/tournament.
Vaibhav’s superb show with the bat in this year’s IPL earned him high praise from the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Pat Cummins, and other greats of the game, and he is now all set to become the youngest player to represent the Indian men’s cricket team in international matches.
While it has been reported that Vaibhav is all set to earn his maiden India call-up, T20 World Cup 2026-winning team captain Suryakumar Yadav is unlikely to be picked for the series in Europe.
Surya was horribly out of form in the 2026 edition of the IPL, and he has failed to impress with his batting for Team India as well over the last 18 months. It’s almost confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will replace Suryakumar as India’s new captain despite not having played in the 20-over format of the game for the three-time T20 World Cup winners since December 2023.
