Deepika Padukone has created history by becoming India’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador, an initiative by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The announcement came on World Mental Health Day, as Deepika met Union Health Minister JP Nadda to discuss her collaboration with the government in raising awareness and improving access to mental health care across the country.
The Pathaan actress, who has been a vocal advocate for mental health awareness through her Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF), expressed gratitude for the appointment. “On World Mental Health Day, I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador,” she wrote on Instagram.

He’s ‘Incredibly Proud’ Soon after the announcement, Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to share Deepika’s post, writing, “So incredibly proud.” His heartfelt reaction quickly went viral, with fans lauding the couple for their constant support for each other’s achievements.
Deepika, who has spoken candidly about her own battle with depression, shared her hope for a more mentally resilient India. “Led by our Hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi, our nation has taken meaningful steps to place mental health at the heart of public health,” she wrote.
She continued, “Through my own journey and the work we’ve done at @tlllfoundation over the past decade, I’ve seen how much is possible when we come together to build a mentally healthy India. I look forward to working under the guidance of Shri @jpnaddaofficial and the @mohfwindia to strengthen India’s mental health framework further.”
Union Health Minister JP Nadda praised the collaboration, calling it a landmark step in normalising conversations around mental health.
“The collaboration with Ms Deepika Padukone will help widely disseminate awareness about mental health issues in India, normalise discussions to reduce stigma, and highlight mental health as an integral aspect of public health,” he said.
As India’s first Mental Health Ambassador, Deepika will work closely with the ministry on national initiatives such as Tele-MANAS, a helpline aimed at making mental health support accessible to all. Her role will include promoting awareness, fostering open dialogue, and ensuring mental health receives the same priority as physical well-being.
