Najmul Hossain Shanto is leading Bangladesh in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series against Pakistan. On Day 1 of the first Test taking place at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Shanto entered his name in the record books by becoming the first Bangladeshi captain to score a Test century against Pakistan in Tests. Shanto walked out to bat at No. 4 for the hosts in the first innings and played a knock of 101 runs. He faced 130 balls during his stay at the crease and scored 12 fours and 2 sixes.
Mushfiqur Rahim previously held the record for the highest score by a Bangladeshi captain in a Test match against Pakistan. Rahim had scored 53 runs from 143 balls for Bangladesh as a No. 7 batter in the 2nd innings of the Mirpur Test played
from December 17 to 21 in 2011.

The century by Shanto on Friday is his ninth triple-digit score in Tests. He is overall the eighth Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century against Pakistan.
Former captain and current chief selector Habibul Bashar was the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century against Pakistan, and wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is the only Bangladeshi to slam multiple centuries against the Pakistani team in the five-day format of the game.

The record of the highest score in a Test match against Pakistan is in the name of former Australia captain Mark Taylor. Taylor played an unbeaten knock of 334 runs from 564 balls as an opening batter in the first innings of the Rawalpindi Test played from October 15 to 19 in 1998. He is the only captain to score a triple-century in the Tests against the Pakistani team.
