PBKS got off to a brisk start with Priyansh Arya (27) and Prabhsimran adding 50 runs in 33 balls. Deepak Chahar cleaned up Arya in the
fifth over, but Mumbai paid heavily for dropping Prabhsimran early. That’s where their sad story began.
Prabhsimran Singh struck a fluent half-century before Shardul Thakur’s four-wicket burst triggered a collapse, but a late surge powered Punjab Kings to a competitive 200 for 8 against Mumbai Indians in a crucial IPL clash on Thursday.
The opener took full advantage, guiding PBKS to 55 for 1 in the powerplay and stitching a 57-run stand with Cooper Connolly (21) to push the total past 100 in the 12th over. Prabhsimran mixed aggression with control, reaching his fifty before clearing the ropes again to keep the momentum going.
However, the game turned quickly once Shardul struck twice in three balls, removing Prabhsimran and skipper Shreyas Iyer (4). Raj Bawa then dismissed Connolly, while wickets continued to tumble as Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen fell cheaply, leaving PBKS in trouble.
Despite the collapse, Punjab finished strongly, hammering 53 runs in the final three overs. Azmatullah Omarzai led the charge with a brisk 38 off 17 balls, while Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett chipped in with late blows. A costly final over from MI, aided by poor fielding, helped PBKS cross the 200-run mark.
