Remember the time when watching a Golmaal film meant getting ready for a few hours of complete madness? From Gopal and Madhav’s fights to Lucky’s silent reactions and all the chaos in between, the franchise has been a part of Bollywood comedy for years. Now, the gang is coming back.
Golmaal 5 is set to release in cinemas on January 8, 2027, giving fans a fun way to kick off the new year. The makers announced the release date with the line, “New year. New madness. Same Golmaal!”
Rohit Shetty is back as the director, with Ajay Devgn returning as Gopal. The fifth film also brings back Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade. Sharman Joshi is returning to the franchise as well, marking
his comeback after the first film, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, which released in 2006.

There’s also a big new addition this time. Akshay Kumar has joined the cast of Golmaal 5. His entry was revealed when the film was officially announced earlier this year, adding a new face to the familiar gang.
The film went on floors in 2026, with the team beginning work on the fifth instalment after years of talks about bringing the franchise back. Priyamani has also joined the cast and, according to Variety India, will play a negative character in the film.
The Golmaal franchise is a popular Indian comedy film series directed by Rohit Shetty. The series began with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006 and was followed by Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), Golmaal Again (2017) and Golmaal 5 (2027). The first three films were produced by Dhilin Mehta, while the fourth was produced by Rohit Shetty and Sangeeta Ahir.
Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee and Mukesh Tiwari have appeared across the franchise. Shreyas Talpade, Ashwini Kalsekar and Murali Sharma have featured in three films, while Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kunal Khemu and Johnny Lever have appeared in two.
Sharman Joshi, who was part of the first film, is returning for Golmaal 5. Akshay Kumar has also joined the cast of the fifth instalment. The franchise also has a spin-off, Cirkus, which was released on December 23, 2022.
