Citing 'recent events', Himachal guv urges youth to preserve ancient culture

Jammu, Jul 27 (PTI) Two days after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid mounting pressure from the Cockroach Janta Party-led youth movement, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Monday urged the younger generation to preserve ancient traditions and culture, “especially in light of what has happened over the past few days.” “Today, there is a great need to preserve and promote our traditions and our culture. Especially in light of what has happened over the past few days, it has become evident that many among our younger generation need values and cultural grounding,” Gupta, who took part in a four-day Vedic Yajna-Anushthan in Kathua, told reporters here.

“Those who have gone astray need to be guided back to the right path,”

he said while asserting the need to promote Sanatan values among the younger generation.

Gupta said that the youth should come forward to preserve India’s ancient traditions and culture, and called upon everyone to come out of the colonial mindset.

“Great ancient universities such as Takshashila and Nalanda were destroyed by invading forces that sought to uproot our centres of knowledge. There is a need for fresh research on this heritage. Our younger generation should work towards understanding and preserving our traditions…We must come out of the colonial mindset that was imposed upon us,” he said.

The four-day religious event has been organised to promote Vedic traditions, spiritual awareness and the values of Sanatan culture.

The Vedic Yajna-Anushthan will continue till July 30 and will feature daily yajna rituals, Vedic discourses, bhajans and devotional programmes led by Maharaj. PTI AB AMJ AMJ
