US President Donald Trump on Friday said European countries had agreed to release a “massive amount” of diesel from their reserves, as governments move to address soaring fuel prices amid disruptions linked to the wars in Iran and Ukraine.
Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, saying the release would begin immediately. He did not specify which European countries would release their stocks or how much diesel would be made available.
The announcement came as G7 leaders agreed on a coordinated release of 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products from emergency reserves. The release will begin immediately and continue over four months, with a substantial amount of diesel to be made available within the first 20 days.
G7 Agrees On 100 Million-Barrel Release
The G7 countries
agreed to coordinate the release through the International Energy Agency (IEA), with diesel supplies being brought into the market early as part of the plan.
The move comes as fuel markets face continued pressure from disruptions to energy supplies and rising prices. The G7 said the measures were aimed at strengthening energy security and helping stabilise the market.
The group also said it would refrain from imposing export restrictions on energy and energy products between G7 countries.
