Instagram and Facebook Down: Users Report Feed, Login and Messaging Problems

Instagram and Facebook users across India, the US and other markets reported problems loading feeds, accessing apps and sending messages.

Instagram and Facebook experienced service disruptions across several countries on Sunday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the Meta-owned platforms.

Reports submitted to outage-tracking service Downdetector rose sharply in India and the US. Users also reported intermittent access in Singapore, indicating that the disruption affected multiple regions rather than a single local network.

Reports later declined, suggesting that access was gradually being restored. Meta had not publicly explained the cause of the disruption at the time of writing.

Instagram Users Report Feed and Messaging Issues

In India, Instagram outage reports crossed 1,900 at around 2:20pm. Users reported difficulties refreshing their feeds, opening parts of the app and sending direct messages.

Some people could access the platform but found individual features unavailable, while others were unable to load the app properly. This indicated that the disruption was intermittent and did not affect every account in the same way.

Instagram reports also rose in the US, reaching 2,829 by 8:18am GMT. Most complaints there were associated with the mobile app.

Facebook Website Access Affected

Facebook recorded more than 600 reports in India around the same period. Complaints included problems opening the platform, loading feeds and accessing account features.

In the US, Downdetector received 4,808 Facebook reports by 7:46am GMT. About 63 percent of affected users said they were experiencing problems with the Facebook website.

User-submitted figures do not represent the total number of people affected. Downdetector identifies possible outages by comparing incoming reports with the normal level recorded for a service.

Intermittent Problems Reported in Singapore

Access to Instagram and Facebook was also intermittent for some users in Singapore. The reports added to indications of a wider disruption affecting Meta’s infrastructure across several international markets.

The precise number of affected countries and users remains unknown. No comparable spike was immediately confirmed for every Meta-owned service.

Meta Has Not Explained the Disruption

Meta had not issued a public statement addressing the Sunday outage or identifying its cause. The company also did not provide a timetable for restoring all affected functions.

Downdetector subsequently indicated that reports had dropped towards normal levels in India. However, individual users could continue experiencing temporary problems while services recover across different regions.
