New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Delhi government has constituted 13 district level coordination committees to effectively address the problem of waterlogging, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday.
The District-Level Coordination Committees (DLCC), constituted on the directions of the chief minister, will be responsible for overseeing the effective implementation and monitoring of district-level monsoon preparedness measures.
“The objective of these committees is to prevent waterlogging and minimise its impact through better coordination among various departments and agencies, so that public safety is ensured during the monsoon and civic services across Delhi continue without disruption,” Gupta said.
Besides ensuring the implementation of the Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs) prepared by the State-Level Coordination Committee, the committees will facilitate inter-departmental coordination on operational issues among departments responsible for the management of roads and all types of drains, she added.
“They will also monitor key activities such as coordination among the concerned agencies at drain junctions, cleaning of bellmouths, desilting of drains, deployment of temporary pumps and inspection of waterlogging-prone vulnerable locations,” Gupta said in a statement.
She added that the committees will play an important role in identifying vulnerable waterlogging-prone locations, monitoring preparedness on the ground and ensuring the timely resolution of issues.
According to an order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the District Magistrates of the respective districts will chair each DLCC.
The committees will comprise of the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned Municipal Corporation, the Executive Engineer of the I&FC, the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), and other civic bodies in the city. PTI SSM SSM MDO MDO
