Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant has said that the team would like to apologise to their fans who came from all over Uttar Pradesh to support the team, which is playing its final league game on Saturday, May 23, and are desperate not to finish last in the tournament.
Lucknow Super Giants entered the season amidst high expectations after a major overhaul after a disappointing seventh-place finish the previous year. With a fit pace attack and a new spearhead in Mohammed Shami, the team aimed to make a strong early impact.
But underwhelming performances from key cricketers such as Nicholas Pooran and Pant, combined with questionable batting-order decisions, led to a damaging six-game losing streak for Lucknow Super Giants midway through
the campaign, leaving them stuck near the bottom of the table.
“We just want to say sorry to our fans, they have come here to support us from throughout UP, so the least we can do today is be here to give our two-hundred per cent,” Pant said while speaking at the toss.

Lucknow Super Giants are looking to avoid finishing at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table. They are level with the Mumbai Indians on eight points but trail the five-time champions because of an inferior net run rate.
The Pant-led team has struggled to produce its best performances in front of home support in recent times. Although they have managed consecutive home victories towards the end of IPL 2026, they had lost all of their previous eight games at the venue before that run.
Batting first against PBKS on Saturday, LSG were at 100/3 after 10 overs, with Josh Inglis batting on 24 and Pant on 14.
