Anyone who has travelled through a large airport knows that flying is not just about take-off and landing. Between security checks, long corridors and distant boarding gates, the walk itself can feel exhausting. For passengers travelling with children, senior citizens or pregnant women, this distance can turn stressful, especially when you’re running short on time.
This rarely discussed part of air travel recently came into focus after a video surfaced online. In the clip, a man explains that Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi offers complimentary buggy services for certain passengers. This is something many flyers remain unaware of.
He captioned the video saying, “Free service at airport for kids, senior citizens & pregnant women…No
one tell you. I wish I knew before.”

Who Can Use Buggy Service?
The electric buggy service at Delhi Airport is mainly for senior citizens, pregnant women, families travelling with young children and passengers with reduced mobility (PRM).
These buggies are designed to reduce physical strain, especially for those who may find long airport walks tiring or uncomfortable.
The service operates within the terminal piers. It helps passengers travel from one point of the terminal to their boarding gate.
How Can One Access Buggy Service?
Passengers can request a buggy through touchscreen kiosks such as Firstouch kiosks located at various points inside the terminal.
Dedicated buggy stations are set up across the terminal piers, where passengers can directly request assistance.
Some areas also have special phones that connect passengers to airport services for buggy requests.
Airport staff members stationed throughout the terminal are trained to help passengers locate and access buggy services.
Information desks in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 can also assist in placing a request or guiding travellers to the nearest service point.
Is Buggy Service Free And Available At All Times?
The electric buggy service at Delhi Airport is available 24 hours a day and is provided free of cost for eligible passengers.
Since the service operates on a shared basis, actual availability can vary depending on passenger volume, terminal activity and boarding gate location.
Should Passengers Book Buggy Assistance in Advance?
Even though the buggy service is free of cost, passengers who expect to need assistance are advised to inform their airline at least 48 hours before departure.
Advance information helps airlines and airport staff arrange assistance more smoothly.
Are There Pre-Booked Assistance Services at Delhi Airport?
Delhi Airport offers premium assistance options for passengers who prefer a more guided and comfortable airport experience.
Atithya Meet & Greet by Encalm provides personalised, end-to-end support across the terminal.
The service includes a meet-and-greet at the curbside, aerobridge or arrival gate along with buggy transfers.
Depending on the selected package, passengers receive assistance through check-in, security checks and boarding.
The service is suitable for families, elderly travellers, business flyers and others.

Are There Any Additional Support Services Available?
For passengers carrying heavy or multiple bags, paid porter services are available at all terminals.
Trained porters assist travellers from terminal entry to the check-in counter during departure or from baggage claim to vehicles on arrival.
Paid wheelchair assistance, including both manual and electric wheelchairs, is available at a nominal charge.
While airlines usually provide complimentary wheelchair support if requested during ticket booking, airport-operated services offer an additional option.
