Mumbai, Jun 18 (PTI) A showroom manager has been arrested here for allegedly embezzling silver articles worth about Rs 2 crore from a retail outlet located in Oberoi Sky City Mall in Borivali, police said on Thursday.
Dipesh Rajendrakumar Jain, the accused, was held after an internal audit exposed the alleged theft, said an official of Kasturba Marg police station.
Jain allegedly pocketed silver goods over a period of six months and destroyed genuine electronic records and fabricated a bogus database to cover his tracks, the official said.
He frequently arrived at the showroom early and stayed late after closing hours. He allegedly created fake delivery challans, altered transaction logs and generated fraudulent approval vouchers to mislead the owner
about the actual inventory.
The fraud came to light during a routine financial audit which indicated that 66 kilograms of silver articles including silver bricks and jewelry were missing.
Rahul Mehta, the owner, then reviewed CCTV footage and internal digital records, and approached police.
Police recovered some of the stolen articles from Jain’s residence, the official said, adding that further probe was on. PTI ZA KRK
