Star batter Jemimah Rodrigues broke down on the pitch after her stunning knock took India to the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup, as she played a whirlwind innings of 127 off 134 balls, taking her team
past a massive 339-run target, to bid defending champions Australia goodbye.
Rodrigues walked in with India in early trouble at 13/1, chasing 339. She first added 46 runs with Smriti Mandhana before forging a match-defining stand with captain
Harmanpreet Kaur that paved the way for India’s win against Australia.Rodrigues and the Indian skipper put together a 167-run partnership to bring India back in contention, with the former reaching her hundred off 115 deliveries. However, the chase was far from over, as India still needed over 100 runs to win.
Rodrigues held the innings together as Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh accelerated the scoring, before guiding Amanjot Kaur, who struck the winning runs. Overcome with emotion, Rodrigues celebrated with the latter before breaking down in tears as her teammates rushed in to join the jubilation.

Rodrigues stood still for a moment, her eyes glistening under the floodlights. This was more than just a match-winning century; it was a moment of deliverance.
Months of pent-up emotion and anxiety poured out and for the devout Christian Rodrigues, it was her faith in Jesus Christ that carried her through to produce one of the greatest innings ever seen in a World Cup knockout game.
“Towards the end, I was just quoting a scripture from the Bible, to just stand still and that God will fight for me,” Rodrigues said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Panned a lot for not living up to the lofty expectations from her, Rodrigues’ 127 in a world record chase would be remembered till time immemorial.
